Warm today, much walking in the sun, danger of sunburn. Still snowing back home??
So what do we do here??? Well, after sleeping very late we fix breakfast. Then we head out for coffee and the day, perhaps to a museum (three so far) or to marvel at the opulent Pera Palace Hotel built to receive passengers on the Orient Express. Or to explore the Whirling Dervishes. Or to a park along the Bosporus or to watch the guys serving fresh-caught fish along the Golden Horn. Or to the Old City and the Topkapi Palace, center of Ottoman power for centuries. Or to a ferry ride to Asian Istanbul, to the Black Sea or the nearby Prince's Islands. In late afternoon we have a great meal, come home by 6 or 7, watch TV, snack and read, and go to bed. All the while we have our eyes open for everything interesting and, occasionally, we take out our cameras. We’ve never liked to rush around on these annual European visits .. that’s why we always stay a month. And maybe we take it a bit easier year by year. But still, our days are full enough and highly satisfying. Many times I've already told Elsa that I’m "really happy we’re here.” This young accordion player, with her coin cup perched on her keyboard, looks plenty happy too. (Elsa did put something in her cup.)
